Puzzles grown from simple rules
Thymotec is an independent game studio that builds Android puzzle games around the way living patterns develop. Cells divide, branches split and colonies spread across a grid.
Each Thymotec board begins with a handful of rules. The interest lies in watching those rules interact and learning to steer them.
| Rule set | A Thymotec puzzle is defined by three or four rules that a player can read in seconds. Levels change the starting arrangement, not the rules, so understanding carries forward. |
|---|---|
| Test cycle | Each candidate level is solved by the team, then by a fresh tester who sees it cold. Boards that can only be cleared by trial and error are rebuilt or removed. |
| Device check | Thymotec plays every board on older Android hardware and in landscape and portrait, checking that a tap lands on the intended cell and that saved boards survive an interrupted session. |
| Hint design | When a player is stuck, a Thymotec hint points at the region of the board that matters instead of revealing the move. A second hint narrows the area further, so the satisfying final step is still left to the player. |
| Colour and contrast | Cell states are shown by shape as well as colour, so Thymotec boards remain readable for players with colour vision deficiency and on screens set to low brightness. |
